Gaia Connection Painting - 12x24"

This is an original painting entitled Gaia Connection. I created it in 2020 while in self-isolation to avoid getting coronavirus. The style is neo-expressionism. I also used surrealist automatism in some of my mark-making to give voice to my subconscious.

Painting is a form of meditation for me. The more I focus, the more my consciousness expands and comes through in the work. I made this the day after Memorial Day. At the time, I wasn't actively trying to create what looks like headstones on the face at the bottom. I was simply in the moment, creating shapes. No thoughts in particular... just paint, canvas, and the greater awareness of the collective unconscious that I believe connects us all at the deepest core of our being. But after the fact, I realized that these shapes did look a lot like headstones. It's interesting how the things going on in my life come through the work in unexpected ways. That is one of the things I love most about abstract painting!
