I painted "Spirit Cat" in 2026. It is an original acrylic painting of cougar relaxing on a rock in a calming landscape.
Whenever I visit the zoo and see the cougars resting quietly, I cannot help but think of my own cat. Their movements, their watchful eyes, and even the way they lounge in the sun feel so familiar that I always joke that a cougar must be my cat’s spirit animal.
In this painting, Spirit Cat, I imagined that connection brought to life. I painted the cougar not just as a wild animal, but as the powerful, reflection of the small companion who shares my home. The piece captures that beautiful truth that our domestic cats are still connected to something ancient and wild.
Through bold color and expressive brushwork, this painting celebrates the quiet strength, mystery, and spirit that exists in both the cougar and the beloved cats in our lives.
The painting is framed in a custom-made cream colored wood floating frame, signed on the front and back, wired, and ready to hang. I included a video of me painting it, and also a video of what the painting looks like hanging in my art fair booth framed.
